1/ Re: UCP/Kenney comments on Education. A thread.

I grew up in a maths system that only catered to one kind of thinker - for this I struggled and watched so many others around me ‘fail’.

2/ I see challenges in the current teaching methods where some kids get confused but I also see my daughter learn how to solve problems in multiple ways assuring her that while there might be a right answer (in math that is) there isn’t just one right way to get there. #ableg

3/ If by ideology that means teaching children empathy, kindness, compassion, and a sensitivity towards other humans and cultures, I say bring it - because the UCP is exactly the opposite of that.

4/ If you buy into the fact that parents don’t have choice in an education system, look again. Montessori, traditional learning, bilingual, immersion, arts or science focused - not every community (town etc) can offer this but choices already exist in most urban centres.

5/ When you talk about nasty campaigning, this is it - a person laughing in the face of experts and educators. People who continue to research and explore how complex we are as humans and how different learning methods continue to serve our students.

6/ I have two daughters who are unique and explore the world completely different. I remember watching my brother struggle with the kind of system Kenney wants to bring back. I was educated under Klein and saw how demoralized my teachers were. #ableg #abpoli

7/ I will happily pay taxes up the wazoo for the rest of my life so that my children’s debts aren’t a system that demands them to step in line and rally in hatred against their peers. #ableg #abpoli
