My sense is that the decision to not immediately launch a new party with a logo, policies etc was quite canny. Makes the proposition potentially attractive to leavers from different parts of the spectrum, and makes the group seem more of a righteous protest
If they had come out with some flashy name and website it would have been ridiculed and scorned by the usual suspects (not that they didn’t try) but somehow this approach - particularly for Berger - has maintained the solemnity of the moment. They didn’t jump they were pushed
I also have a feeling that the antisemitisn issue will continue to rumble on and potentially get worse in the coming weeks for Labour, and that may lead to further righteous defections. I’m truly sorry for the many great people in the Labour movement who didn’t want or cause this
Particularly sorry for younger members who didn’t realise what falling behind Corbyn and his fellow travellers entailed. They thought it was 21st century socialism but it was something more regressive, and the leadership haven’t had the insight to move beyond their own pasts
I have spoken to many of them during the past year or so.

Most Labour members just want to make society better, not defend morally compromised zealots who look in the mirror they haven’t wiped since 1982 and, unsurprisingly, see only righteous anti-racists
When the history of Corbynisn is written the first and last chapter will be about his lack of insight, empathy and, most crushingly, his inability to change.

Great leaders can’t be both rigid and brittle.
It will say that he build a great movement and then stood rigid, frozen, clinging to his old friends, as it moved away from and beyond him
It didn’t have to be like this.

Under a year ago I genuinely thought that if Corbyn showed both insight and empathy - if he moved forward personally and showed willingness to truly listen - the antisemitism issue could be addressed
But it wasn’t to be. At all stages he withdrew when the opportunity was there for him to reach out. He went into his shell, protecting himself and his fellow travellers, when a great movement leader would have grown beyond both
