Thread. In recent months, @GregPoling @AsiaMTI @AndrewSErickson & @ChinaMaritime have reported on a rapid and comprehensive Chinese naval buildup in the South China Sea. This thread gets deep into the weeds about that, but the weeds are important.
The major takeaway isn’t really about Chinese reaction to factual reporting. It’s that no nation in the region is strong enough to deal with China alone. The US is, but is too far away to do so. International cooperation — across the board, top to bottom — is imperative.
