CNN will do its share of panels today debating the most recent statements of junior members of Congress, but it is at least also giving welcome coverage to an alarming report on crashing insect populations published in Biological Conservation. @emckirdy
So is @guardian via @dpcarrington. It’s obvious, if you think about it, why crashing insect populations are such a problem. Lots of other animals eat them: birds, reptiles, mammals. theguardian.com/environment/20…
Abstract of the Francisco Sanchez-Bayo-led study on declining insect populations via @faisal_moola . What is causing this change? Deforestation, habitat loss first, then intensive pesticide use, mainly in agriculture.

Let’s do a #NationalEmergency thread! I commend @BulwarkOnline editors for this statement on what Trump’s declaration means for Republicans, especially those in Congress (HT @SykesCharlie for this). Might I point out something, though?
2. Issues of Presidential and Congressional authority, legal procedure, and private property rights are all involved in Trump’s latest attempt to play at being dictator. So is whether Republicans, when push comes to shove, will put loyalty to The Leader above all else.

The USS Fitzgerald disaster, @ProPublica reporters make clear, was not a one-off. It was a symptom, of long-term neglect of training and maintenance in the Navy, and particularly in the 7th Fleet based in Japan: the US fleet closest to China. features.propublica.org/navy-accidents…
What's the issue here? The great service @MegMcCloskey @txtianmiller & @RobertFaturechi have done is to draw attention to the possibility of a disaster we cannot imagine, because we haven't been looking for it. The American military, and particularly its leadership...

More on the #Foxconn boondoggle -- I don't disagree with anything @SykesCharlie says here. We should be clear, though, that although Trump does a cameo at the end of this story, this massive corporate welfare project was a Scott Walker production.
Right from the start, Walker as governor took the view that state government was there to serve business: to cut their taxes, make labor and environmental regulations easy to live with (or dodge), and ladle out incentives with a smile in exchange for the promise of jobs.

Many of the allegations against @POTUS are serious and should be taken seriously, especially by members of Congress.
We should allow Robert Mueller to complete his investigation and issue his report before taking any action potentially affecting the president’s tenure.
Based on the deliberations of the Framers of the Constitution and Federalist No. 69, I believe that a sitting president should not be criminally prosecuted. Before facing ordinary criminal liability, he first would have to be impeached, tried, convicted, and removed from office.
