The article itself refers to the architect building her own apartment in the building.
This is a fairly common dodge in real estate development: if you’re dodgy, you put all the nice stuff you want in your place, and cost out the price to all the others in the development.
It’s not technically illegal to do that. It’s just sketchy.

Same with building 38 other apartments to finance the designer’s. It’s a level of arrogance, to be sure. But not illegal.

But... hiring 1 artist to do an installation for a building? That’s a money laundering dodge.

So...Jill Abramson's book has finally hit bookstore shelves. A few weeks ago, reading a galley copy, I noticed an egregious error about my colleague @adrs. She tweeted it out, a shit storm followed, Abramson corrected the mistake.
*All three* chapters on Vice were clotted with mistakes. Lots of them. The truth promised in Merchants of Truth was often not true. While trying to corroborate certain claims, I noticed that it also contained...plagiarized passages.

First of all, it's fascinating to me just from the standpoint of how even the most absurd propositions can draw wide audiences, when thinking people should be able to dismiss them out of hand. 2/
Second, the fact that we will argue ad inifinitum about subjects that don't deserve a second look is a serious indictment of something - either our inherently American contrariness or the ground-leveling effect social media has. 2/
