It's time the mainstream media stop turning every MP's most foolish utterings into news. "Idiot says idiotic thing" is only newsworthy if you expose the idiocy, make it an issue for the person speaking. But just parroting "stuff MPs say" and calling it news... that's enabling!
For instance, all the headlines about attempts to stop Brexit or hold a second vote being an assault on democracy. Or about us coping just fine under WTO. That's OK to lead with if you go on in the body of the piece to explain exactly why it's nothing of the sort.
But if you just let those sorts of things linger unaddressed, like a fart in a crowded lift nobody dares mention aloud... you're enabling.
It's time to stop. Stop enabling. Stop giving a platform to lying liars. Stop repeating everything because of who said it not what was said.
