Homeless statistics have been fiddled by a large number of councils in the latest annual update, leading to a drop in the nationwide figure that is likely to be illusionary. Fiddled how, you say? It's all in the article... theguardian.com/society/2019/f…
This isn't directly the Government's fault, ie they didn't orchestrate it, though it is their choice of counting rules that ultimately enabled it (if councils weren't permitted to count the way they did, the fiddle wouldn't have been possible).
But of course, you won't be surprised to hear that they're taking credit for the drop, without acknowledging the statistical fiddle that contributed to it.
