My Green New Deal:

- $3T over 10 years ($300B/year) for mass transit
- Fed loan subsidies for housing near transit
- Ban gas cars by 2030
- 100% clean energy standard by 2035
- certify CLT for structural uses/ban cement
- border carbon adjustments/Buy Clean procurement standards
And you can pick off high-carbon Brazilian beef, Indonesian palm, and Chinese/Indian steel in the border adjustments. Done.

I’m not gonna defend DiFi but I’ve been livid for 3 years that Bernie came to my town to endorse a bunch of NIMBYs who are making climate change worse by blocking infill housingand building parking lots.

A couple weeks back I tweeted that the earth shook on housing policy. It was because of this - AARP has just signed on as a supporter of the #MoreHOMES Act, SB 50. I have a short thread on why I'm so psyched about this - and why I think it's a big deal.
For quite awhile now, there's been a measurable trend of older Americans moving back into city centers to enjoy urban life - the services, the entertainment, the walkability. It's a smart move for many reasons, one big one being:

Suburban isolation accelerates health problems.
The science on this is unequivocal: People who have more social interactions live longer and have fewer health problems later in life than people who live in isolation and have to travel far to have social interactions.

It's been four days since Associated Press falsely reported that Gavin cancelled high-speed rail. National media, and DC political media in particular, have had a field day dunking on California and spreading propaganda that in America, only cars infrastructure works; not trains.
It's true that AP's lie made it around the world before the truth got its pants on. But let's define "the world" a little bit.

California's political press - which I consider to be best-in-class - got the story *totally right.* We've been reading about the nuances all week.
This is a @jayrosen_nyu -level example of when the cult of the savvy meets fake news. National political reporters didn't bother to check with their colleagues in Sacramento to find out if AP's story was accurate. They just ran with it.

Whose job is it to go back and fix this?

I am seeing a lot of either/or and flat out misinformation about two proposals to address climate change: Carbon Fee and Dividend and a Green New Deal. Here's a thread with my thoughts.
First, let me make it clear that I support both. I started the Citizens Climate Lobby chapter in my city, which is still going strong though I have moved on to chairing the Sierra Club's Ready for 100 campaign in my city.
I also went to Washington, DC, on December 9-10 to get arrested in front of Steny Hoyer's office and spent six hours handcuffed at a police warehouse to support a Green New Deal.
