Hello from the federal courthouse in Alexandria, where Paul Manafort is due at 3:30pm for sentencing. See: buzzfeednews.com/article/zoetil…

Just went inside to check the scene (it's quiet), and the security guard goes, "Hey! Long time no see!" He shakes my hand. "It must be that day."
As you may recall from Manafort's trial this summer in Virginia, you cannot bring any electronics into the courthouse, so no live-tweeting from today's 3:30pm sentencing. In the meantime:

The Trump administration for the first time confirmed it deported 471 parents separated from their kids at the border — we knew from previous court filings it was in the 400s, but this is the first definite number from the govt buzzfeednews.com/article/zoetil…
Many months after a judge halted separations and ordered the Trump administration to reunify families, these sorts of numbers have continued to trickle out clarifying the exact scope of what happened buzzfeednews.com/article/zoetil…

Roger Stone has filed a motion to dismiss his former associate Jerome Corsi's defamation lawsuit: assets.documentcloud.org/documents/5761…

"Corsi’s allegations are threadbare assumptions of character based on an inaccurate understanding of Mr. Stone’s history, personality, and interests"
More specifically, Stone is arguing the DC court lacks jurisdiction because no one involved is in DC, nor were any of the events at issue, and that Corsi failed to meet the standard for alleging defamation, given that he's a limited public figure and the bar is higher
Stone's lawyers argue he had grounds to say that Corsi committed perjury (the comments that Corsi is claiming were defamatory) because Corsi himself made public the fact that he expected to be indicted for that

Meanwhile, the DC Circuit has finally ruled in Andrew Miller's challenge to Mueller's subpoena authority. Mueller wins.
The 3-judge panel opinion was unanimous, holding that the special counsel is an inferior officer, meaning does not need to be nominated by POTUS and confirmed by the Senate, and DAG Rosenstein was acting AG on the matter for which Sessions had recused, so could appoint Mueller.
Not sure why it took this long, but, OK.
