Imagine for a moment an alternate reality. One where SJWs at the highest ranks of the Canadian government hatch a secret plan to infiltrate American college campuses. Their goal? To identify, expose, and silence politically incorrect students and faculty.

Called "Project Snowflake", the group soon raises millions from sympathetic Americans (YA Twitter, English professors, etc.). Agents begin compiling dossiers on College Republicans, while outspoken psychology profs find threatening emails in their inbox.

"You have been identified as IDW-adjacent," reads one message. "Publicly renounce the biological basis of sex or else."

Others find damaging information about themselves posted on an online database, which SJWs hope will render them unemployable at Google or the NYTimes Opinion page.

When these efforts are exposed by Quillette, members of Project Snowflake do not apologize -- far from it. "You need to do it,” one Canadian explains. “They’re fighting against us, so we need to fight against them.”

Others say that students being targeted by Outrage Mobs are just getting what they deserve. “If it is in the public domain, why not? I don’t see any problem. If someone doesn’t want it to be leaked publicly, he shouldn’t put it” on social media.

Now you might think that reports of a covert and well-funded campaign by agents of a foreign state to subvert political activism and squelch free speech on campus would be a major issue. And indeed, for journalists who focus on campus free speech, it is all they can talk about.

But most say nothing, especially in the liberal media. Sites like Vox and Salon, or the leftwing Twitter commentariat, all of which usually parade about as staunch supporters of student rights, fall conspicuously silent when talk of the affair comes up.

And while Ezra Klein, stung by accusations of hypocrisy, is quick to trot out articles previously published on the issue, these pieces are inevitably mealy-mouthed and equivocal. Not at all like what would be written if the targets had been on the Left.

All and all, it is a depressing spectacle. Foreign SJWs are secretly conspiring with American leftists to silence conservative students and faculty, and all the libs are willing to do, besides mutter a few perfunctory remarks, is drone on about the latest Hollywood wrong-think.

........But good news! It was all just a Thought Experiment, an idle what-if. Nothing like this could ever happen in real life. After all, we are far too principled, you and I. Too fair-minded. We stand for something. We have integrity and a sense of proportion.

And it shows.
