Nah fuck it, I'm going off. This shit has me fucking heated.

Hey @ArmadaUGS, you want to know why people hate Melee? This is why. Not the reason you present in this video, but because this is what you think of other scenes and other communities.
The FGC doesn't hate or resent Melee because they stuck to their game instead of moving on. If you actually got out of the scene and talked to people, you'd find out that the FGC actually respects Melee for this. It's something we hold in high regard.
In fact there's many tournaments in the FGC where old games being played and celebrated are incredibly popular. The fact that people would be willing to play and support older games just because they love them so much is applauded.
Seeing high level competition for an old game is incredible, it's something that newer games have a hard time keeping up with. The amount of knowledge and tech amassed over decades with people who know every line of code in the game inside and out is incredible.
So when something like Cooperation Cup happens, the FGC gathers to support these older games and the people who still play them. It's a big deal in our community. And Melee is no different, and we don't see it any differently. Support of an old title is great.
The problem however, is that the Melee community is so insular that they don't see these efforts from the FGC, and you make up shit like this and you create this idea that you're better than everyone else, that your scene is the best and your game is better than every other game.
This is why people hate Melee. You literally spend a minute talking about how everyone else are dumb sheep that just move from game to game without thinking critically about it and somehow skip over the part where this line of thinking is the problem.
Of course people think critically about the games we play, we all know where they stand. Look at the EVO entrants for Street Fighter V in 2016 compared to 2017. You think 2,000 people just dropped off for no reason?
Everyone played SFV and figured out how they felt about it and either continued playing regardless or moved to another game, because that's what our community does. For you to imply that everyone is just mindlessly supporting the game is ignorant at best and insulting either way.
And then you go on to talk about how great the Melee community is and how much they show support, then follow up with saying that other games bought their way in and then laughing at Samurai Shodown for not being as big as Melee. Great community.
If you were familiar with games outside of Melee, you'd be aware of French Bread, who is an incredibly small developer who can't afford to buy their way into EVO if they wanted to. Under Night In Birth didn't buy its way in, it fought its way in through a huge community push.
The UNIST scene is literally a grassroots effort to get their game on a bigger stage, and EVO took notice of their growth and support and included them in the lineup. Not too dissimilar to where Melee was 7 years ago. Ask Leffen.
Frankly the backhanded comments you made about the community in general were infuriating and highlighted exactly why there's such a divide between Smash and the FGC at large, and why you see people making negative comments about Melee and celebrating it not being in EVO.
I didn't even want to make a reply to this, but you just got me so pissed off at this attitude you have for people you expect to share a stage with. Would you want to sit next to a scene that thinks they're better than you and you're an idiot? Because I don't.
