The reason why this is such a big deal is because Amazon has gotten so big and so ubiquitous that it has the power to push whatever product it wants, even if it is dangerous or built on a stack of lies, without any real effect on their business.
The reason why this is such a big deal is because Amazon has gotten so big and so ubiquitous that it has the power to push whatever product it wants, even if it is dangerous or built on a stack of lies, without any real effect on their business.
Are they able to do this? Yes. Should they? Typically, businesses are at the mercy of public opinion. In Amazon’s case, whether it’s being the last large advertiser on Breitbart or recommending Q books, it doesn’t matter to them. It’s all money and there’s never a price to pay.
That’s ultimately why people are frustrated with this. It’s not the actual book. It’s their lack of morals or shame in the face of profits and the inability of anyone, because of their virtual monopoly, to hold them to any kind of ethical standard.
Or maybe it’s just a fucking really good book.
