That said:

The human rights paradigm isn't just "nice", it guarantees peace, prosperity, and security. It's too important to be bent or abandoned when dealing with individuals who have committed horrible crimes.
All of this isn't inconsistent with the fact that I feel no sympathy for the plight ISIS recruits face today. All I feel is schadenfreude, really. Their thousands of victims (and millions of indirect victims) are far more deserving of sympathy.
