You know what, now that I've collected over 40000 YTPMV and OtoMAD links, I think scrolling through them could give us a glimpse of how the fad "evolved" over the years on YouTube. Thus I shall go through them all and share my observations and call that journey #ytpmvhistoria
2006/9/11 - Music video of Drop the Dodongo by Verix was uploaded on YouTube. The origins of the remix and the music video can be found from this thread:
While both remix and video originated from somethingawful.com, this was one of the earliest instances of a YTP source being used for musical purposes. Similar to many other early YTPMVs, the backing music was composed by the remix's author
2007/5/8 - One of the earliest fan videos of @keatonkeaton999's 300 This is Sparta (fun times mix) was released. Similar to Drop the Dodongo, the remix didn't originate from YouTube, though some still wonder if this can really be classified as a YTPMV
2007/9/15 - The first video to use "Sparta remix" is released by Tabull89. Regardless of what people think, the so-called Sparta remixing is the first instance of multiple people using the same pre-existing song and different YTP sources together
2007/10/5 - Tabull89 is also the one to upload the first YTPMV that included pitch-shifting. While the author has admitted that it's also the first YTPMV to use midi replacing, it is regardless the first time when a YTP source was used as an "instrument"
2007/10/21 - Vorhias uploads their remix You Are An Egghead. This is the first video to actually label itself as a YTPMV, or as the video puts it "a music video of a YTP-Tune". It seems that the term YTPMV originated from this video
2007/11/10 - Incidentally, Vorhias also seems to be responsible for making the second fan-made Sparta remix
2008/1/1 - The OtoMAD featuring Ronald McDonald and U.N. Owen was Her? is reuploaded on YouTube. One of the earliest and most famous videos that involves remixing video samples and a pre-existing song together
The video originated from Nicovideo, where it is still the most viewed OtoMAD on the entire website with nearly 20 million views. Both the "source" and the song have also remained relatively popular to this day nicovideo.jp/watch/sm2057168
2008/1/4 - Suprisingly, the second earliest OtoMAD that was reuploaded on YouTube was also the first Lucky Star related video of the bunch
But unfortunately, the original upload of the video has since been deleted, though the page does still list the Nico user あう (user/1092906) as its creator nicovideo.jp/watch/sm1944213
2008/1/25 - The Falcon Punch+Gourmet Race OtoMAD is reuploaded on YouTube. Another famous video from the early days of video remixing, this video seem to have kickstarted the other early YTPMV fad of using Gourmet Race as the base of a remix
This is most evident with the "THIS VIDEO CONTAINS __" fad, where users took random sound bits and used them to play the song's melody. This is also the first widespread YTPMV fad to rely heavily on pitchshifting youtube.com/playlist?list=…
On Nicovideo, the original video was part of a sub-fad of its own. The video was structured to parody a Soka Gakkai OtoMAD of the song, which has since become one of the more elusive and infamous OtoMADs due to the copyright complications of the source nicovideo.jp/watch/sm2133471
While copyright strikes seemed to be common in early days of Nicovideo, even today Soka Gakkai is one of the riskiest sources to work with. However, people still tend to post such works every once in a while and even reupload some of the older videos knowyourmeme.com/memes/hissu-am…
2008/2/17 - One of the earliest TF2 based remixes is uploaded. Due there being multiple uploads of this remix, there is a chance that it may have originated from elsewhere. Incidentally, TF2 was little over 4 months old at this point
2008/1/12 - One of the earliest Angry German Kid OtoMADs is reuploaded on YouTube. The source garnered a lot of attention on Nicovideo, making AGK one of the earliest, widely used sources along with McDonald CMs
Also, I was meaning to keep these in chronological order and talk about the JENOVA+AGK reupload from 2008/3/7 next, but I forgot about this even earlier video ^^;
Also also, I had talked about that earlier video before, especially about how YouTube's reupload was uploaded earlier than the upload on Nicovideo 😄
2008/5/10 - 5124523 uploads "YTPMV - Random YTP Quotes". From what I can tell, this is the first YTPMV video that features screen-flipping in time with pitch shifts
Case in point
Or wait, there's an even earlier instance that the term had been used. In 2007/6/5, MrRoboto113 uploaded the video Luigi's Diner, which also used the term 🤔
2008/6/9 - @McMaNGOS1 uploads "U.N. Owen Was Robotnik (Penish Insanity)". This marks the first instance of the song U.N. Owen was Her? being used in a remix that originated from YouTube
2008/6/20 - Kamek (user/7KAD) uploads "Dr. Ivo Robotnik: Assault on the Mint". This is the earliest surviving instance of a Robotnik remix that doesn't involve just sampling his Pingas line
But I know that it isn't the earliest overall, since as some may or may not remember, igiulamam created several Robotnik-themed remixes back then. However, what has been left of them are just reuploads, the original uploads are long gone
However, as I just found out myself, it is possible to dig up the archived versions of the original video pages. And thus we can see that - for instance - Tomorrow I'll was originally uploaded on 2007/9/27
And It's From The Show was originally uploaded on 2007/11/11
And Robotnik's Tea Party was originally uploaded on 2008/5/2
However, Planet Freedom's page wasn't archived while it was still up, but based on the capture of Robotnik's Tea Party, it was already uploaded by 2009/3/9
2008/6/23 - MrRoboto113 uploads "YTPMV: Sonic Favors The Mario Series". This marks the first instance of a YTPMV using both Super Mario 64 theme and Mario music in general
2008/07/22 - One of the earliest (surviving) Gachimuchi videos is reuploaded on YouTube. I say surviving since it is likely there have been even earlier ones. For instance, I know a 2009 reupload of Gachi+Queen video was taken down just a few months back
And by Gachi+Queen video I mean this one nicovideo.jp/watch/sm5706705
2008/7/25 - TheDarkRises uploads "┗(^o^)┓ ED'S GOURMET RACE ┗(^o^)┓". This is the earliest instance of a YTPMV using Ed, Edd and Eddy as a source. Also second YTPMVer to use screen flipping
2008/7/27 - MrRoboto113 uploads "Snake Favors The Mega Man Series". This is the earliest instance of a YTPMV using Mega Man music
Oh, I forgot to mention, this is the first instance of Sonic music being featured in a YTPMV
2008/8/8 - @arghivebeenshot uploads "UN Owen was Captain Falcon (PAUNCH Insanity)". This is the first YTPMV to use the BeatMario version of U.N. Owen was Her?
Wait, I forgot this one, this one featured this source earlier in 2008/6/15
2008/8/10 - heartlessmushroom uploads "THIS VIDEO DOSNT CONTAIN WHAT YOU THINK IT CONTAINS". This is the first remix to sample TF2 Medic's line "Oktoberfest"
Also forgot to mention this one earlier:

2008/8/5 - SlaughterDog uploads "Heavy Yells TF2 Theme". This is the first YTPMV to feature Heavy Weapons Guy
Wait, no, that Bonk remix earlier used music from Super Mario Land, ignore that other point ^^;
2008/8/14 - NeoNintendo uploads "Scrub Scrub Scrub by King Harkinian". This is one of the earliest YTPMVs to utilize elaborate sentence mixing
2008/8/21 - Slip (user/tanzfete) uploads "Morshu Approves the Gameboy". This is the earliest remix that focuses on Morshu from Legend of Zelda: Faces of Evil
2008/8/26 - TheDarkRises uploads "DON'T LOOK". Unless I overlooked something, I believe this is the first instance of Ronald McDonald being used in a YTPMV

I thought that DKCplayer might've been the first one to use him. I'm kinda surprised actually 😄
2008/8/27 - One of the earliest (surviving) Death Note OtoMADs is reuploaded on YouTube. While not as extreme as Soka Gakkai, Death Note is also somewhat risky to work with as a source
2008/9/14 - M0rtanius uploads "We're off (Squa-da-la)". This is one of the earliest YTPMVs to feature Blue (Da Ba Dee) by Eiffel 65
2008/9/25 - Big Purp (user/omgtsn) uploads "NOSTALGIA MAN". This is the first YTPMV to feature Nostalgia Critic as a source. Also, screen flipping as means to signify the shift of a pitch seems to be coming along nicely
2008/10/18 - daggerrun uploads "TiNerdte-Wait, what?! THIS is how Angry Video Game Nerd was introduced to the early YTPMV scene? 😳

WHAT?!
2008/12/4 - FPsupertoaster uploads "ナイト・オブ・[Heavy goes to a rave party]". This is the first YTPMV remix to feature BeatMario's Night of Nights
2008/12/9 - Okay, I was planning to just mention how this is the first time Demo was featured properly, but this is just a 2008-era masterpiece right here 😄
2008/12/15 - "THIS VIDEO CONTAINS WIN" is reuploaded back on YouTube. This was the original video that started the "THIS VIDEO CONTAINS __" fad, but whoever the original author was deleted the original upload 😕

Thanks for saving this, @laughingwarlock 😄
2008/12/22 - M0rtanius uploads "Final Fantasy 6 - Battle with The King". This is the first remix to feature music from Final Fantasy
2008/12/31 - xcloudx01 uploads "S-O-L-D-I-E-R". This is the first YTPMV to focus on TF2's Soldier
No, wait, there's an even earlier instance from 2007/6/1. Who on earth used it first? 😓
Okay, so we've now covered notable videos until 2008. What did we learn?

- Sparta remixes have been here every step of the way
- So has Robotnik, even starting the first YTPMV fad
- Tabull89 was a fearless pioneer
- The one who came up with the term YTPMV is (currently) unknown
- U.N. Owen was Her?, Gourmet Race and Night of Nights migrated straight from Nicovideo
- First TF2 remixes were made within months of game's release
- Screen flipping is barely a thing yet
- Visuals are still lacking or merely consists of a single still image
I'll keep going another time, I got too much into this ^^;
I forgot to add earlier that music from games such as Super Mario, Sonic, Mega Man and Final Fantasy were introduced really early on. But unlike the two Touhou songs and Gourmet Race, these became part of the YTPMV organically, likely due to the prior popularity of these games
Okay, I actually did overlook something then. Ronald McDonald was used almost half a year earlier by Big Purp (user/omgtsn) in 2008/3/24
Okay, seems like ConflictFrogs' video used to be a response to this video, which in turn has linked what seems to be the original MP3 of the remix. However, that link doesn't work anymore, so we can't get any info of the original creator from there 😕
