1/ This @oth_mdos article lists challenges for #MDC2 to overcome but does it miss vulnerabilities affecting C2 now?

Are we thinking ‘new old’ not ‘new new’? Future C2 must be revolutionary, not evolutionary.

2/ #MDC2 not purely focussed on Air Ops Centres (that’s ‘new old’). A ‘new new’ approach to whole military operating concept is required, with C2 distributed across battlespace. See the #CombatCloud intro by @MitchellStudies / @Deptula_David.

3/ AOCs are ‘old old’: a federation of Multi Domain Ops Centres is ‘new new’. An interim step could be MDOC(Air)?

Aspiration should be for MDOCs to C2 all domains, not just Air, Space & Cyber. NB integration issue between services: bigger issue in US than UK? And #FusionDoctine?

4/ #MDC2 recognizes inherent vulnerability of centralized C2 nodes so disperses, not centralizes activity. #TeamOfTeams analogy is good.

Better to think of ‘unity of command’ (to enable dispersal of Cmd Gp), in addition to decentralized control and decentralized execution?

5/ Fog of war is inevitable, whether loss of ‘assured’ comms is deliberate or due to tech/RF issues (how to tell the difference?). Commanders must always be prepared to make decisions based on latest & best available info. Are we becoming dependant on a clear view of battlespace?

6/ Disruption of control must be anticipated. Is the production of a C2 ‘playbook’ providing dynamic, conditions-based authorities the way forward?

Accept concerns about physical data security but same thought about dispersing C2 nodes applies to info nodes. Should a worldwide ‘data cloud’ approach should be adopted, akin to US DCGS?
