Slightly obsessed with Emil Mayer’s photographs of pre-1914 Vienna.
Oh look, one of my favourite German words: ‘handschuh’ (glove).
Mayer came from a Jewish family in Bohemia, but converted to Catholicism. After the Nazi annexation of Austria he and his wife committed suicide in June 1938.
They’ve reminded me of the sketches made between 1907-1914 by the Glasgow School of Art teacher Archibald Haswell Miller scribd.com/book/298022850…

#LainaReadsAnne So, when last we left, Matthew Cuthbert was heading to Bright River to pick up the orphan he plans on adopting with his sister Marilla. Matthew enjoys the drive, but he vehemently dislikes the fact that he must nod hello at other drivers.
#LainaReadsAnne He especially dreads doing this at women, and this is reflective of his general view on them. He often fears they're laughing at him.

TBH that would probably sound a lot creepier if he didn't hate being around ALL people.

Repurposing this photo because I can: I’m on a train to secret places “between the years”. I have time so I’ll tell you about Germanic myths and folklore and where the “between the years” expression comes from. Ready? Ready... 🐺✨
So in Germanic folklore, we call the 12 days between winter solstice (21st/22nd) and the 3rd of January “Rauhnächte”. It’s meant to be a very magical time of the year with many traits that are sacred but also devious and scary.
We call them “between the years” because it still dates back to the time most common folks have been using the lunar calendar. One year consisting of 12 lunar months or 354 days needs to reconcile the missing days and therefore making them “dead days” between the years.

White male student gets recorded saying he "loves white people" and Columbia University is holding an open space for reflection in response to that "incident."

NBC journalist @kfloresguzman is currently writing a hit piece on the boy that was recorded.
The student in question doesn't say anything remotely racist, but the university "unequivocally denounced" him. The University officials also lie, they claim that "painful language directed toward students of color" were spoken.

What's most interesting is that in the video, one of the people heckling him thinks it's okay to put her hands on his face. Another one shouts "degenerate" at him.

He doesn't insult them once.

This is what they're attacking him for.

My parents were Socialists.
They grew up dirt poor.
They believed in creating change in their lifetimes.
They raised us to believe the same.
When we were small, they were Civil Rights workers.
My dad was a Freedom Rider.

Our early childhood was framed within & by the #CRM.
My mother wasn't well, but she did everything she knew how, to ensure that black Americans had the right to vote, a right she cherished because her mother had been a baby #suffragist and had fought for that right for women.

The fallout for my parents was minor compared to their black friends, but it was violent and hate-strewn and they worried about their children being hurt.

And we were hurt. I got beaten up a lot because then as now I refused silence. I got in a lot of fist fights.

1/ Manu (The progenitor of Humankind)
All different races of Mankind are derived from Manu and Shradha. The current Manu is Vaivasvata Manu.
2/ The word Manu literary means man but it is a title given to the progenitor of mankind. According to Hindu Puranas there are many kalpas (One day of Lord Brahma the creator) and each Kalpa has 14 manvantara and each manvatara has one manu. So basically each Kalpa has 14 Manus.
3/ The current manu of the present manvantara is Shraddhadeva or Vaivasvata Manu of this current Kalpa. He is the son of Vivasvat (Probably Surya) and is therefore also known as Manu-vaivasvata.
