Govt updating House on latest developments now parliamentlive.tv/Event/Index/05…
Written statement to follow. "Sensitive and urgent" discussions taking place. Heh.
Blather.
Endless stream of meaningless gibberish.
Corbyn: "I left my office at twenty past 3. At that time Downing Street was unable to confirm who would be responding to my questions."
Corbyn: What changes to the backstop have been secured? When will att gen be publishing new legal advice?
Not convinced he's going to get answers to these questions.
Asks for confirmation on meaningful vote tomorrow.
Response: Meaningful vote tomorrow, talks ongoing, legal advice will be updated.
Clarke. Confirmed vote on deal will come tomorrow. What about Wednesday vote on no-deal and Thursday vote on A50 extension.
Minister says they "absolutely stand by" commitment to two secondary votes if meaningful vote defeated.
Cooper pressing that meaningful vote same as in legislation. She gets it. "Section 31 of the Withdrawal Act is binding
This is important. Govt comments earlier that you could have a 'meaningful vote' on a notional deal would be against the legislation, as it's supposed to apply to deal agreed with EU.
Bradshaw tries to press advantage: If govt uses an amendment tomorrow to make support conditional on a non-negotiated deal, that doesn't satisfy the law.
He's trying to block off the govt from doing another Brady - adding on some unicorns and calling it a meaningful vote when - again - a meaningful vote must be a real deal agreed with EU.
Minister again says they'll stick by legislation. Bit cagey.
Soubrey: Motion must be tabled by the close of play this evening - that's 10:30. Does that leave enough time for MPs to table necessary amendments to it. And what about the att gen legal opinion? Where does that fit into timetable?
Minister: Att gen committed to providing legal analysis "ahead of debate". Will ensure govt motion brought forward soon as it can be.
Bercow: It is correct that govt motion must be tabled by close of play today. "
"I understand natural reluctance to commit to a specific time on behalf of the minister but the deadline is the rise of the House."
On adequacy of time for amendments, Bercow says "in extremis" they will be taken. Interrupted by Tory MP. "I don't need any help from the rt hon gentleman. He wouldn't have the slightest idea where to start."
Richard Graham has met constituents who happen to agree entirely with whatever he thinks.
Angela Eagle: "The minister is asking us to accept that two and a half years after the referendum he is going to give us a few hours to have a look at the deal the PM may or may not conclude sometime overnight."

Yep, that;s about the jist of it.
Chris Bryant makes the controversial argument we have "proper scrutiny and stop flying by the seats of our pants all the time".
Bercow pushing govt quite hard to put down motion tonight as soon as possible. But says "there could well be several hours tomorrow" for MPs to table amendments.
"My role is to champion the legislature and not be a nodding donkey for the executive branch."
Suggestion there that Bercow could try to delay tomorrow's debate to give MPs time to lay down amendments to the govt motion. Really interesting.
Kevin Brennan MP: Our system is based on Cabinet govt. But the govt is going to lay a motion on the most important decision we've considered since the war and it won't even have been considered by Cabinet.
"That is - I won't say above or below my pay grade - but on a different remuneration scale, let's put it like that."
(Sorry that last quote from Bercow)
Yvette Cooper says there is a month long consultation on door closure warnings on the DLR. So there is now officially more consultation on that than on the whole future of the country. "Is this incompetence or contempt of parliament?"
Bercow: "It is important we treat this business in a responsible way. And that means that parliamentary colleagues have the opportunity to express their will."
Sajid Javid is now taking an urgent question on the child of Shamima Begum.
"Not appropriate to comment on the details of an individual case." Horrible hollow laughter.
"I will not shy away from using the powers at my disposal to protect this country." Appalling self-interested irrelevant drivel from the home secretary.
Diane Abbott: "On this side of the House we believe she and her baby should have been allowed to return home. Now we know that baby is dead."
"This schoolgirl born and brought up in Bethnal Green was Britain's responsibility. But above all bringing the mother and baby home would also have given the baby a chance of life."
"Instead, the home secretary chose to strip her of her citizenship. Many authorities content it was done illegally."
Brilliant from Abbott. Genuine outrage.
"Can he explain to the House why he deemed this 19-year-old, with her not-quite three-week-old baby, more dangerous to Britain than the hundreds of foreign fighters who have been allowed to return?"
"This decision, which has led as night follows day, to this three week old baby dying, does not appear just or fair to the British public."
Javid issued empty platitudes in response. No-one wants to see dead babies. The government is "committed" to protecting British citizens.
"The only person responsible for the death of that child is the foreign terrorist fighter." That is not true. It is moral cowardice.
Ken Clarke: "I thought it was policy not to take away citizenship unless someone had substantial citizenship and some connection with another country. I'd not previously heard it described as some kind of punishment."
