There have been so many defining moments in the fight for a #GreenNewDeal. Today, we’re going to announce the next one. But first, we want to show you where we’ve been - so you know why we’re taking this next step together…

Our power as a movement flows from the grassroots. Last Spring, we launched Sunrise Semester, w/ 80 young ppl stepping up to put climate change on the agenda in the primaries & general elections. One of the first people we endorsed for signing the #NoFossilFuelMoney pledge: @AOC

For months we knocked on thousands of doors, made thousands of phone calls to get climate champions into office, candidates who signed the #NoFossilFuelMoney pledge. By November 7, we had helped elect over 500 of them to office at all levels of government-- including Congress.

But then we got some disheartening news: while wildfires raged across the West coast, Nancy Pelosi & Democratic leadership told the country that climate change would not be priority in 2019. Not only was there no plan to address the crisis--they weren’t even gonna try to make one

So one week later, over 200 strong we brought our fear and anger into the halls of Congress. We demanded that our leaders step up and stand with our generation to address the climate crisis. We told them to make a plan to preserve our futures: we demanded a #GreenNewDeal.

But we knew the fight for a #GreenNewDeal wasn’t going to be won in DC. So we asked you all to do something huge: we asked you to join our movement, to visit your Reps, to start local Sunrise hubs at your schools, in your towns, in every corner of this country.

We took action together by the thousands. For the past few months this movement has grown because young people all across the country felt the hope of the #GreenNewDeal and knew it was worth fighting for.

Now we face another challenge: the #GreenNewDeal is under attack from fossil fuel billionaires & the GOP elites they’ve paid off. They’ve launched an all out smear campaign bc they’re scared. They know we’re powerful & the GND could successfully unite this country against them.

Our power is determined by the young people from all walks of life who join our movement. So, today we’re launching the most ambitious program we’ve ever tried…
