Why would the son of a Holocaust survivor spend his adult life aiding and abetting a white supremacist autocrat?

Because collaboration with white supremacy is a survival strategy -- especially for white-passing minorities like light-skinned Ashkenazim.
It's not a survival strategy that WORKS, longterm, of course. We saw evidence of that on Wednesday when Cohen gave his testimony. But it can be very appealing to some.

you know what's useless? "mindfulness" as pain treatment.

being "mindful", being aware of my body, my surroundings & myself, avoiding dissociation - those have always been things I struggled with.

you know when they got better?

the second I got meds that reduce my pain.
you know on which days they're worse? on the days I have pain flares.

it's almost like pain is the problem here and not the tools our brains use to deal with it
I mean, yes:

there was a time where I was always dissociating my pain and telling myself what I was feeling wasn't pain at all, because I 100% believed it was all psychological.

that was bad.

I saw George Takei speak last night about his life and career.
A life that has seen Japanese internment camps, the violence that accompanied the civil rights era, the struggle for LGBT recognition and basic dignities.
And a career that saw him offered roles as humiliating stereotypes and having to keep his most important relationships a secret to protect it.
