18,000 Arkansans have lost Medicaid under Trump's cruel *strip jobless workers of health insurance* policy.

So naturally, Trump this week:

1) called for taking the policy nationwide in his budget

2) is going to court to defend it, after a federal judge declared it unlawful
Legal advocates have maintained since Trump announced the cruel policy that it violates the Medicaid statute.

A federal judge struck it down in Kentucky last summer on these grounds.

But Trump is so hell-bent on dismantling Medicaid by fiat, he's fighting this in court.

Make no mistake -- "work reporting requirements" were always a backdoor to dismantling Medicaid.

*Case in point: Some 18,000 struggling workers in Arkansas have already lost Medicaid under the state's policy.

*HUGELY* important new study by Starr & Prescott of @UMich finds:

People who get a criminal record expunged see their wages go up >20% within a year.

BUT:

Just 6.5% of eligible folks get their records expunged within 5 years -- because of all the hoops and red tape involved.
@UMich "The policy upshot of our research is clear:

Obtaining an expungement should be made as simple as possible.

States should follow the #CleanSlate approach of Pennsylvania and the new California and Utah bills, to make expungement automatic once the legal requirements are met."

To be clear: this kid is unquestionably a badass and should be celebrated. But “aw how heartwarming” is a dangerously limited takeaway. His story illustrates some of America’s most urgent policy failures & we do a real disservice whitewashing those & RT’ing with a heart emoji.
