Next up is @g_hoges talking about how to crowdsource insights.
Gerard started by looking into the 'Wisdom of Crowd' which sounded great in theory, but was only really good for figuring out how much an Ox weighed at a fair.
When you open up to crowdsourcing you begin to get rich information and perspectives and you can get a more well rounded view of a problem
Gerard loves recycling and when it comes to research he's so keen to reuse the insights you generated from previous studies.
The amount of times he saw questions coming across his desk that research had already answered.

On the project that kicked this off, he found 52 different research projects that had answered the questions.

Instead of going through it all himself, he crowdsourced the insights
Here's Gerard process for crowdsourcing.

Step 1: Gather your sources.
Step 2: engage your crowd

You need to sell into your project team the benefits of this approach.
People feel much more connected when they've been included in some part of the process.
Step 3: Divide (to conquer)

Provide a framework (what is an insight?)
Add a timeframe
Examples are good
Gamify the homework (a leaderboard works)
Step 4: Give people a template

Forcing people to write their insights as a hashtag can help keep them concise

Make people write the source, the document & the page number so everyone can find where it came from
Step 5: Share the insights

Make it fun!
Take turns - play nice
Start with themes if you have them
Vote on the insights
The important thing is getting people to share what they've heard and have a conversation about it.
If you already have themes you can put them up on the wall and synthesise straight into it. Of you're not that far along it's okay, they can be emergent.
Step 6: plan what's next

Plan new research to fill gaps
—easier with stakeholders who've collaborated
Create How Might We questions
—very good for teams doing iterative work
Prioritise.
—helps teams make decisions
