Marvin spent 11 months on Rikers for drug possession before pressure to plead guilty got the better of him. Prosecutors withheld the most critical piece of evidence-the drug lab. NY's "discovery" laws & prosecutors’ abuse of those laws destroyed his life.
Last night, James Foreman (@jformanjr) spoke on need for those directly impacted to be “front & center” in fight to end mass incarceration. Marvin is proof. Bail. Discovery. Speedy trial. All laws that committed him pretrial to this literal jail boat floating in East River. 
Bail. Discovery. Speedy trial. NY has a real chance now to lead the nation in fairness, instead of lagging far behind, by passing commonsense reforms. The strongest opponent: the DA’s Association of NY (DAASNY), of which Cy Vance is still a part.
