1. I'll be talking w/ @ArthurBrooks on Monday's radio show about his terrific new book "Love Your Enemies; How Decent People Can Save America from the Culture of Contempt" amazon.com/Love-Your-Enem… But as wonderful as it is in its aspirations, I will have to press Arthur hard.
2. B/c the problems he identifies have been so completely monetized, and are so profitable for media generally but social media, cable television, talk radio in particular, that I don't see a solution though @ArthurBrooks has profound insights into possible palliatives.
3. I'll also be talking this week w/ @NoahCRothman about his book, "Unjust: Social Justice and the Unmaking of America."amazon.com/Unjust-Social-… Noah's book is a sort of perfect companion to @ArthurBrooks b/c it illustrates the enormity of the problem.
4. If I was king of the forest --or at least the head of programming at PBS-- I'd clear 2-3 hours for @ArthurBrooks and @NoahCRothman, @McCormickProf @CornelWest and @esglaude to be quizzed by @MargaretHoover about the dilemma we face of a poisoned public discourse.
5. The rationale is that @esglaude and @NoahCRothman appear to be genuine friends, and as @arthurbrooks details, @McCormickProf and @CornelWest consider each other "brothers." So this sort of conversation, over many weeks in fact, not just hours, might be a beginning.
6. But while @chucktodd @JakeTapper @jdickerson @margbrennan or a handful of others could steer a cable network show with this group, there is no profit in it. Zero. That's the dilemma @arthurbrooks and I will discuss Monday: I don't think the public square can be repaired.
