This is why referendums are a bad idea. It's because people are thick. Politicians don't want to say that because they want people's vote. But I don't need people's vote. I can say people are stupid.
Do you want to know what people are stupid about today? You do.
People are saying that the Tories are going to vote for May's deal, and then "crash out" at the end of the transition.

People so overheated with paranoid orgasm that they don't think.
It's what we've been talking about for months.

There is a clause in the withdrawal agreement that we cannot leave. If negotiations fail completely to produce any new terms, there is STILL a base limit to how far we can leave.
The withdrawal agreement is a legal contract. You can't "crash out" of a legal contract.

The backstop - you must have heard of it - is a clause that comes into effect should it prove impossible to reach any further agreement.
The backstop is a legal safety net. Crashing out becomes impossible once you have adopted that safety net. It is a floor beyond which you cannot fall. A lower limit further than which you cannot crash. Ever.
I mean, holy fucking Jesus. I suppose it's not people's fault, the media and politicians are almost comically ill-informed themselves.

But all this is reason not to have referendums. People will not know what they're voting for and they do not pay attention.
