So it looks for all the world like Doug Ford has some money problems and some things he REALLY doesn't want other people to know.
And he's in charge of a province with assets that would be a hell of an investment if they just so happened to get privatized.
And since the 2018 election, he's announced the elimination of several watchdog positions; devastating cuts to education and disability services; cancelled contracts with companies selling green technology, forcing Ontarians to pay huge financial penalties...
And announced plans to amalgamate health systems, which (as we know from the MFP scandal in Toronto after the "megacity" amalgamation) creates its own opportunities for corruption.
And tried to put an unqualified family friend in charge of the OPP, the police force that would be in charge of investigating him for corruption in office.

And fired the officer who blew the whistle on that.
And announced intention to upload Toronto's transit system to the province without offering a remotely credible policy reason for wanting to do that.
Even before @randyhillier's open letter, Doug had given us every sign that he's planning to commit crimes in office, if he hasn't already. The question is, for whom and what kind?
People who say "oh, like the other parties don't do it" have it backwards. The other parties DO do it. Liberals have made plenty of bad calls and cynical deals. I'm sure Hillier knows what business as usual looks like in government. That's why I fear something very bad is afoot.
It isn't just our social safety net or government services that I think could be at risk -- it's the natural resources we have here. Like our water.

Remember how the Ford government fired Dianne Saxe.
And hey, look what she's talking about in this interview from the end of last year:
I'm not trying to be alarmist, truly, but this situation is *way* too much like what we've been watching in the US over the last two years.
I have a feeling Randy Hillier is doing what so many Americans hoped John McCain, Jeff Flake, etc. would do, and what it's now clear no Republican is ever going to do. And if so he is giving us a *vital* opportunity.
This needs to go viral. This needs to be front page news every damn day until we get answers. If Hillier is lying, great, phew. But we *need to know* what Doug has been up to.
And we *really* need to make sure Andrew Scheer does not become our next PM, because Doug has been in the Conservative Party for a long time and I find it *very* hard to believe they don't know anything shady about him.

Which means they tolerate it.
Re: Deco. Something is REALLY not right here.
The Ford government's response to Hillier's letter raises my eyebrows. People have *noticed* that there are suddenly way more standing ovations at Queen's Park -- we're really supposed to believe those are all spontaneous?
Several of their denials fly in the face of common sense and information that is already available to the public.

Falsus in uno, falsus in omnibus.
And the pretext under which they turned on Hillier -- the alleged "yada, yada" remark at QP -- just screams "purge." As @reggcohn points out, Doug himself has said much worse and never felt the need to apologize.
This is inherently less scary than Trump having command of the US military and access to the nuclear codes, but lives do hang in the balance here. People are already losing their homes because of this government. We *need to know* if our Premier is corrupt.
Another amalgamation (which offers the Ford government the opportunity to award very large, lucrative contracts under reduced oversight) was announced today:
And then there's this:

There's no smoke without fire, and this is a LOT of smoke.

People were wrong to say "shut up about the van." It's not about the van (although the van is hilarious.) $50,000 is peanuts. It's about the fact that he wanted it purchased off the books. It's about what happened to Brad Blair. There is a pattern here.
More on the Ford family's white supremacist and criminal connections:
More re: Doug's less than impressive performance at Deco, which has meant constant cash infusions are needed to keep up a) the business, b) the DoFo family lifestyle and c) the "successful businessman" image Doug campaigns on

theglobeandmail.com/news/toronto/d…
This 2014 article is quite something in light of Renata's 2018 lawsuit:

"Wise Tag has not been turned around and Mr. Ford turned to his family for a cash infusion to keep it afloat, according to one source."
"Also, the son of Wise Tag's former owner is suing Councillor Ford for $179,654.27 related to alleged unpaid loans, credit-card debt and compensation."

Remind you of anyone's lawsuit?

(Remind you of anyone else's president?)
A suggestion that Randy (hence Doug) may have, not as long ago as you might think, run illicit business out of Deco: "about two decades ago, police officers spotted Randy walking out of Deco holding a garbage bag in one hand and a weigh scale in the other..."
"When Randy Ford spotted the officers, he ran into the office. The officers chased after him and wrestled him to the ground. But when they turned to collect the evidence, the bag was gone. Police believe someone disposed of it during the commotion."
