My best kept secret* is that string & wiring diagrams--plucked straight out of applied category theory--are *fabulous* for software and system design. And you don't have to learn a damn thing to start using them. 🙌

I've been using them as a software design tool for about 2 or 3 years, and they've been great as teaching tools too, with junior and senior colleagues alike.
This meringue recipe is a string diagram, from Fong & Spivak's "Seven Sketches of Compositionality". Notice that the lines are "data" and the boxes are "functionality" -- the opposite of many programmers' instincts, but it's a really helpful framing.

A small part of me dies when you use that "A monad is just a monoid in the category of endofunctors, what's the problem?" joke in your slides. Please don't use it. A few reasons (thread):
It's usually presented as a joke: "Look how complicated this stuff is to learn". Except that it's not as hard as everyone thinks, it is eminently learnable, and this joke just scares people off. Why not spend your effort helping them understand instead?
People genuinely find these concepts (monads, etc) difficult to learn; this joke does not help them in any way, or shed any light on their situation; it hinders them. Why would you wish to hinder them? No one is forcing you to talk about monads if you don't want to

Becoming rich or wealthy is a "long thing" with its own set of rules that many people are not ready to play by.

This is about how to stop struggling financially.
If you struggle financially, it is because of any of the reasons below:

(1) You make a lot of money but you figure out a way to spend it all.

(2) You don't make any money at all

(3) You don't make enough money.
If reason No.1 is you, your problem is obvious. You simply need to learn how to keep more of what you are making and invest it to get the money to make you more.

I can't teach you that. People like @tosinolaseinde will help you out in that area.

#Thread Went to Vizhinjam coast to meet the fishermen who took part in rescue mission in #KeralaFloods . We were filled with positive energy and happiness hearing their experiences (1/n)
We dedicated almost 2 pages for celebrating their mission.On Thursday 8.10 pm Fr.Justin Judin,vicar of Vizhinjam church announced the requirement for boats through public announcement system. In 20 minutes almost 50 boats and 100 fishermen were assembled. Military like formation!
Just see the Engine fan of a fishing boat which participated in the #KeralaFloods rescue mission. Most of the boats are damaged and they won't be able to go to sea for a while. I was blown away by their sacrifice (3/n)
