Can I just say, all joking aside, that I’ve followed and studied Michael Gove’s career for a long time, and he is absolutely *not* a safe pair of hands, *not* to be trusted, and potentially every bit as bad a PM as May. Or worse.
I’ll happily take the piss and make jokes about him - my blog about him nearly 6 years ago got hundreds of thousands of hits - but he’s much worse than a joke. He’s a stubborn ideologue with no empathy and little understanding, and as bad as May about accepting criticism.
And in support of my analysis - I warned people about May, and not enough listened...........

I understand and appreciate why some people on the left don’t want to go on today’s march. As someone who thinks Blair should be in The Hague, and who is revolted by David Miliband’s role in Extraordinary Renditions, I really understand the opposition (short thread)
I don’t like sharing an event with people comfortable with - or even actively supporting - austerity. I don’t trust the Lib Dems an inch, and I’m still angry with their failure to acknowledge their awful role in coalition, and how it normalised both austerity and xenophobia.
I don’t like the bad faith actors whose primary motivation seems to be to attack Corbyn - and I know there are some for whom this is a key. And yet I’m still going on the march. I’ve still signed the petition. I’m still working the best I can to oppose Brexit.

Wholly unsurprising to see people on the far right trying to distance themselves from the shooting in NZ. It’s all part of a pattern, though, and they’re part of it. Yes, in the UK I mean Farage, Yaxley-Lennon, Katie Hopkins, the Daily Mail and Express. BBCQT. Etc.
Anyone who met with Bannon. Anyone who approved of Zac Goldsmith’s mayoral campaign. Pretty much all the ‘bad boys of Brexit’. And of course in the US pretty much the whole Trump lot. Trump himself.
It’s the same picture. The same hate. The same fear. The same de-humanising and ‘othering’ of people. The same ‘games’ that have real consequences.

One of the most saddening things about the whole Brexit process has been the lying - and the repetition of the lies, the believing of the lies, the failures to call out the lies, and, ultimately, that the lies have won.
More than that, that people who know very well that the lies are lies seem perfectly happy to go along with them because they think it’s popular. It’s a fundamental defeat of truth, of honesty, of evidence, of science, and more.
The liars thrive, their lies are reflected and magnified rather than challenged by the media. The liars get promotion rather than the sack. The liars win.

OK, give me more than 5 minutes to research and write this thread. There are some initials points to be made, though. Tapping Sessions' Chief of Staff Matt Whitaker as acting AG is a good sign that the positive achievements will continue. Also:
(2) That's from the story below. I've also read and have yet to confirm, that Rosenstein was taken off the Mueller probe oversight. If true, that's good for Rosenstein IMO. (ICYMI, I respect & admire both Sessions & RR.)

(3) Jeff Sessions is a tough guy. He won't be feeling bitter over this... like me, he focuses on the positive, and knows that his historic achievements on the law and order front have saved many lives, and reduced much suffering. He's now free to campaign for conservatives, too.

I have a long and boring train journey ahead of me today so here's a thread of post Reformation Archbishops of Canterbury as crisps:
Rowan Williams- Thai Sweet Chilli Sensations.

Complex and with clear Eastern influences, Rowan is the flagship flavour of the Sensations range. Yes it's the sort of crisp you could take to Cambridge high table but it's also a crisp with an air of dark, Dostoevskyian mystery too.
George Carey- Twiglets.

A crisp with a solid working class pedigree. Twiglets saw a spike in popularity in the nineties but now they're likely to be an opinion divider if bought up in social situations such as dinner parties or the General Synod of the Church of England.
