Exciting news announced today at #ACES2019: As part of @APStylebook’s latest round of updates for the 2019 print edition, a new umbrella entry called “race-related coverage”: 
That the entry around race and racism has been updated in @APStylebook is a huge deal and the result of hours of work and honest conversations by several of my colleagues on how all journalists cover issues of race. #ACESAPStyle
As an industry standard-bearer, for @AP to say this today sets a tone for others to follow and encourages a continuing and much-needed conversation in American newsrooms.
While no policy is perfect, I am proud of what was announced here. As @AP’s national race writer, these issues are a core part of my approach to my own work. I am glad and grateful to have participated in the process that achieved this entry.
Those who follow me here know my feelings on euphemisms like “racially charged.” I wrote about it in December for @niemanlab: niemanlab.org/2018/12/say-it…
Apparently the issue resonated with many of you as well; my prediction was the second most-popular this year, which I attribute not to me, but to our collective willingness to be more honest about race in America.
Today represents a step towards that greater honesty. I want to thank my colleagues for their leadership, particularly @paulafroke and @sonyagal. Onward!
