Game of Thrones, is interesting to me more for what it says of a certain mindset/perception on European world-view than what it tries to allegedly distill from millenia of history. But its immense popularity with many who dont possibly immediately recognize the historical events
behind Martin's narrative, gave me a few amused if not surprised pointers: incest, sado-masochism, fetish, torture, blood, the "darkside" - and relatively easy acceptance/tolerance of themes that wd be deemed scandalous and taboo even a decade ago
is something very peculiar historically to unstable periods in between unsettled wars, where ideologies are fighting it out for dominance and grip over public imagination. A very restless discomfort and anomie combo that one can see in precursors to both WWI and WW2.
my own speculation on end of seasons? Dany will be betrayed by Tyrion (will be killed)& killed possibly before giving birth to a son to Jon. Sansa not Arya is likely to be killed. cersei raped by Euron and killed later. More dragons to die, Jon riding the survivor.
Bran is somehow related to the whole white-king/nightwalker stuff. The 3-eyed time-traveller raven is parallel to the 3-eyed-3-time-knower-destroyer-mahakaal "meme" and maybe its Bran who is responsible for the whole invasion by the ice zombies. Jon will be the "philosopher king"
who may vanish from time to time in esoteric journeys into past/future/time, but returns to "guide" his people: and most imp, if I hv judged Martin's drives correctly- Jon will reflect the European struggle to "tame" arbitrariness of "autocrats" through "parliamentary" cntrl.
there many be some attempt by Jon to make monarchy of 7-kingdoms subject to approval/choice/selection by the people -while showing the same European peculiarity of separating "commons" from "rulers" - as "commons" r dumb/they shdnt be given "all knowledge" as they may be
unable to "handle" dangerous knowledge. Europe uses democracy to reduce chance of rebellious overthrow of existing elite, so illusion of "participatory democracy" can be used to confuse and delegitimize any sense of grievance/dissent by the commons in what their "elected"
representatives secretly play - once elected - among themselves, almost always away from public scrutiny in the garb of "national interests" which r almost always in reality a small-group's interests. That kind of self-contradictory duality might be something Jon will end with.
