1) How motivational speaking influenced the mental health of some Nigerians.

2) This piece is a call to superior engagement, authenticity and truth not a ridicule of the motivational speaking industry.

3) I have observed the industry for about 17 years now.

The harangue started when I was a student of Olabisi Onabanjo University. Students travelled every weekend to attend one speaking event in Lagos or the other.

4) They brandished the teachings like a sword upon their return. Launched westernised statements, quotes and strategies.

5) Forgetting that western quotes like ' winners don't quit', 'when the going gets tough, the tough get going' must be subjected to the African context.

6) The tough gets going to no where in Nigeria. Nigeria does not answer to strength. Nigeria answers to wisdom. The tough have to restrategise, collaborate or outsource if they don't want to hosted in the grave.

7) 17 years after, I see that the motivational bubble has ruptured. The cacophony has disappeared. Reality has habituated. Eyes have cleared.

8) Life has proven to be deeper than english grammar.

9) Everyone who 'TAUGHT' before 'DOING' are battling with some flavour of disappointment and unhappiness as we speak

10) while everyone who decided to practice before teaching gained experience, credibility, authority, power and understood how to align their valleys and dips before the ascending a platform.

11) If you want your life to work, you must be willing to do the work. Not just engage tactless hope.

After all, JESUS 'DID' before ' TEACHING'.
