Read what you love until you love to read. Some notes to self on reading.
When you get tired or lose interest, dog-ear the book and put it down. Don’t even finish the sentence.
Read hardcopies. They are calming. No notifications or other apps to switch to.
Read 5 or 10 books at once. Read whichever one you’re in the mood for. Same goes for fiction.
Look at the table of contents and start with whatever chapter seems interesting.
If there’s a point you don’t understand, don’t worry about it. See if it comes up later; you can figure it out then.
Don’t worry about remembering or learning anything. You still learned something along the way, even if you can’t verbalize it.
Fiction is great for falling asleep, especially if you’ve read it before.
Start new books even though you’ve barely started your old ones. New books excite you to read; old books already made their point. Get back to the old ones later.
The theme of these suggestions is to make reading as easy and fun as possible. No rules, no goals.
