That is perhaps the most misunderstood thing about all the arthroplasties: Quad weakness is bc of AMI (Arthrogenic Motor inhibition) that lasts for up to 18 months but starts well before the surgery. Comes a long way (1890), see refs below. We should probably block FN for longer than 10 days to block the neural pathway of AMI and enhance recovery. We are studying this.

There's a lot written and known about this but: "Nobody as blind as he who will not see". The disease itself and the surgery are the contributors to AMI and NOT the CFNB. CFNB may even enhance recovery of quads.
AMI is actually ARTHROGENIC MUSCLE INHIBITION, we just bastardized it to Arthrogenic MOTOR iInhibition to understand it better.
