While Trump’s gaffe is trending, a quick note on the substance:

Among other things, the Flores settlement banned the indefinite detention of immigrant children, and the Trump administration has relentlessly tried to scuttle the more than 20-year-old agreement.
Trump keeps going to court and losing to wriggle out of basic protections for detained immigrant children that the government has agreed to for more than two decades.

So when Trump complains about “Judge Flores,” this is not simply about him mistaking the jurist issuing the ruling with the 15-year-old girl.

Trump is upset several judges now have told his administration that they cannot lock up other girls like Flores as long as they want.
* not a Freudian slip — a Dante-worthy autocorrect error
I understand that in the age of modern mass and social media, “Judge Flores” is an irresistible laugh line, the new covfefe, if you will.

After the derision subsides, I hope sober commentators—particularly reporters—focus some of the national discussion on why Flores matters.
