I’m not sure why folks aren’t making a bigger deal about Jeffrey Rosen’s upcoming confirmation hearing to replace Rod. I realize folks feel deflated with the Barr summary and the Mueller report delay, but this job is the #2 job at DOJ & plays a pivotal /1

Role both within DOJ & JUST AS importantly, w the White House. Rosen has NO prior criminal defense or prosecution experience, no government national security experience, and no law enforcement experience. But he’ll be telling the FBI Director what to do, he will be the boss /2

Of the US Attorneys who have the Trump related cases like Roger Stone, Maria Butina, Michael Cohen etc. He will be in a position to impact or shut down cases. He will be in a position to decide who gets to bring what cases if there is a fight between US attorneys offices. He /3

Will be deciding what resources go where for all divisions and law enforcement agencies. How do we know he’s going to devote the necessary resources to combatting election hacking? When he goes ALONE to meet w POTUS, Mulvaney or the WHC, he has no idea how DOJ precedent works /4

He will be alone with WH folks and they will be able to press him into a policy position that runs contrary to DOJ practices and policy because he won’t have a stitch of institutional knowledge to draw from. He will go to Deputy level meetings and sit in the Situation Room /5

With the other #2 Agency Heads and be expected to tell the whole of government DOJ’s position - and his recitation of DOJ’s position will largely be based on the advice of OTHERS on his staff of the AG’s staff because he has no reservoir from which to draw his own analysis or /6

Conclusions or provide historical context or advice from similar situations in criminal or national security matters. Having Rosen in this role is like asking your excellent orthopedic surgeon to actually now be your brain surgeon. It is not the same and without practice or /7

A background in that type of life or death surgery, it won’t matter that he’s excellent at fixing a broken leg. I realize he may otherwise get confirmed. But we shouldn’t be taking it sitting down while throwing our hands up. This is a big deal job & we should fight him.END
