The Senate Judiciary Committee will be hearing this morning from Jeffrey Rosen, Trump's nominee for deputy attorney general. The stakes are quite different from when current DAG Rod Rosenstein had his hearing in March 2017, but the DAG is still a hugely important post at DOJ
Rosen serves as deputy secretary of Dept. of Transportation. He's a lawyer with significant legal/govt experience, but has never served in any position within the Justice Dept., which is unusual for DAGs. He addresses this in his prepared remarks: assets.documentcloud.org/documents/5810…
Rosen and AG Bill Barr go way back - the two are former law partners at the firm Kirkland & Ellis. Here's Rosen's Senate questionnaire: judiciary.senate.gov/imo/media/doc/…
DAG nominee Jeffrey Rosen's confirmation hearing is underway. You can watch live here: judiciary.senate.gov/meetings/04/10…
There is currently one Democrat at the hearing for DAG nominee Jeffrey Rosen, ranking member Dianne Feinstein
Update: Sen. Klobuchar has arrived at the hearing, so now there are two Democrats there (I point this out only to show that there is a lot less attention being paid to Rosen's nomination than there was to Rosenstein's)
Graham asks Rosen if he thinks he could lead DOJ if AG Barr had to step aside because of a conflict. "I do," Rosen replies, citing his past experience leading large federal agencies
