Ironic to see today's spectacular results from @ehtelescope summarized as "Einstein was right". Einstein did NOT believe black holes could exist. Here's his 1939 article about "Schwarzschild singularities" (term 'black hole' was coined much later by J. Wheeler)
See the full article at jstor.org/stable/1968902
What appears to always be "right", at least so far, is the theory he discovered in 1915, General Relativity
The recent major discoveries, like black holes and gravitational waves, were made by generations of scientists who built on that theory, and despite Einstein stubbornly insisted they were absurd ideas
Credit should thus be given to the many scientists who made these discoveries possible, including those involved in the @LIGO @ego_virgo @ehtelescope collaborations
And to be more precise: Wheeler did not “coin” the term black hole, he popularized it. It was proposed by someone attending a talk by Wheeler in 1967 as an alternative to the phrase “gravitationally completely collapsed object”[see Wheeler ‘s book “Geons, BHs & Quantum Foam”]
