Sheriff says church arson was solved through police investigation, not through tips. Says he personally told the suspect's father, a deputy, about the arrest after it happened—he was unaware of it until informed.

Aha: Sheriff just clarified father's role. He was told BEFORE the son's arrest, and "facilitated" getting the son out of his house so he could be arrested in a public place without incident.
So the father (a sheriff's deputy) had no knowledge of the impending arrest until informed by his boss, but did assist the department in making sure his son would be arrested without violence.
