Funny how that headline listed 10 things but left out the one most important descriptor: White
The “we can see the photo” comments are so inane. Someone’s race is either relevant to the story or not. There are white people in photos where race has nothing to do with it. This is a case where it does. Defaulting to a photo suggests race is irrelevant, since it’s unspoken.
So, are we arguing the inverse? For instance, every story about Obama was about race because we saw his photo? What about mugshots?

Love this piece, as always, by @EricaLG. Some thoughts. That anyone wld consider any of our children, no matter their circumstance, irredeemable speaks exactly to why we get such poor results w blk children. None of our children are irredeemable. They don't need to be redeemed
.@KingJames could have opened a charter. He did not. He did not take from the system that serves most kids, but added to it. He remained part of the democratic system of schools and all of their regulations and safeguards, giving lie to the notion that only charters can innovate.
A THIRD of these kids receive special education services -- numbers you will not find at almost no high-performing charters. But also that speaks to how we are using special ed when it comes to black students as proxy for the poor education they have received.

That’s patently false. White students are over represented as well and there’s plenty of conversation about that. Some Asian-Americans have used their mega phones — and I would argue white folks have gladly let them — to tamp down accusations the test is racially biased.
But the extent to which Asian Americans have been the faces of this story is because that is where the most vocal public pushback has come and the very tweet you’re referencing addresses Lieu saying reform efforts are anti-Asian and racist.
It’s been easy, then, for white people who also don’t want changes to the test, who also are overrepresented in a system built to ensure their advantage, to sit behind the scenes and let it seem as if these are just “minority” groups fighting.

What a silly article. Do people who write these anti-reparations articles even bother to read anything that has been written on before? Do they even care that all their supposedly gotcha questions have been asked and answered? Do they know the difference between wealth & income?
Does anyone get editing anymore?
But, it's clearly about clickbait -- hence the: I really stirred up a hornet's nest with this one. Thanks but not thanks.

We've got mass murder, terrorism, global warming, refugee crises every where you look, mass extinction of nearly everything but people, cows, hogs, carp, starlings, and cockroaches.
2. Road rage. Rush hour traffic. Walmart and Amazon dot com. Sixty or seventy thousand junkies (loosely defined) die every year. 8 or 9 thousand teenagers die in or by cars every year, too close to a thousand more shoot themselves or each other.

the response to my thread has been better than expected--and i received a couple of threats--which reminds me that i was a little hasty in writing it and missed some things. oh, but i'm not gaslighting anyone. the maga hat is still a short-circuit sign of hatred, racism, violence
one of the things i left out is the semiotics of ex-nomination, which Barthes (in Mythologies) calls the process by which the "bourgeois" goes unnamed & its interests seem transparent, invisible or not class interests at all. they are just default.
ironic aside: note "bourgeois" has an "r" in it that is definitely pronounced (rhymes with pour) & for a french-canadian "bougie" is a birthday candle--that's cultural imperialism of a term used to define and describe cultural imperialism via the inscription of ordinary.

I get the feeling said tweeter has never been apart of Marginalized America. Like many new to this whole "resistance" thing. She is upset that we have such a rude boorish oaf in the White House. But she still fails to understand what exactly is the issue with the GOP. /3
