It is amazingly irresponsible for @AJC to publish this false and misleading opinion piece praising BMD voting systems that cannot be audited, while the authors make unsupported claims that BMDs are secure and auditable. What is going on here, AJC? 1/ ajc.com/news/opinion/o…

2/ DHS is now scrutinizing such BMD systems to determine whether "risk can be managed." Why buy something risky, that cannot be audited?

Unnerved by the Mueller report pg 50 reminding us how vulnerable the voting systems are? Why aren't we citizens acting to ensure the security of our elections? This is ONE area that we can control. Reminder from March 2018. See thread. usatoday.com/story/opinion/…
2/ It's easy to assume that the state, or Congress will take care of ensuring OUR elections. We forget the tension that exists between those elected under an unreliable system and their desire to change the system. "The system elected me. Proves it's a good system."
3/ Using GA as example--where we KNOW that there were massive voting system problems, --all predictable--and unauditable results,--while hand. marked paper ballots COULD have been used to avoid it---did voters get engaged enough to try to secure their elections? No. But why?

Let's hope that Congressional Oversight Committee has the bandwidth to focus on GA and its crying need for fair election systems. All going the wrong way at the moment. 1/ thehill.com/blogs/congress…
2/ Voters in GA and elsewhere need to stop waiting on Congress to solve these problems and start in their own counties, with their own local officials. In almost every county in the US, local officials can solve the major issues without a big budget.
3/ Hand marked paper ballots along with audits are a solid defense against hacking by Russians or the local miscreant. Almost all counties in US can count by optical scanners that they already have. Or can buy more w/o much expense.

BMD-enablers @beckerdavidj & @MattBlaze have now BOTH blocked me after refusing to even comment on the “Permission to Cheat” & “Ballot Stuffing” features confirmed by cybersecurity experts Andrew Appel & @rad_atl. Becker & Blaze have the ear of lawmakers & election officials. 1/
This is unacceptable. They don’t dispute the problem. They just bury it by refusing to discuss it. Blaze has testified to Congress perhaps more than once. @beckerdavidj is now co-chairing a Committee for @MichSOS on election security, presumably including new voting systems. 2/

That question always pains me because a huge debut hit happens from time to time, but that's rare. So most people who break the bank promoting that first book aren't going to make back that investment, (2/14)

TLDR version: despite a decade+ of screens for synthetic lethals, relatively few robust hits have been identified 1/n
Many/most hits only identified in a single screen. A lot of this has been attributed to limitations of RNAi screens (high false positive and false negative rates), so there is much anticipation that CRISPR screens will solve the problem (due to reduced false pos/neg rates). 2/n
We argue that a major reason for the lack of reproducible hits is that many synthetic lethal interactions are highly context specific - i.e. A and B are only synthetic lethal in a specific tissue type or, more worryingly, in a specific genetic background. 3/6

3/ Wisconsin's DS200 scanners, the ones w/ cellular modems, are from ES&S, which was recently exposed for selling election management systems w/ remote access software & refusing to reveal where exactly it did this. Here is something you can do!

*That was an interesting case.. I was Certain I was allowed to vote for Brian Benjamin in the Special Election.. they spent time looking thru the rolls but eventually gave me an affidavit ballot
