What an interesting point of view, different from my own. Perhaps and exchange of ideas would build a bridge between us. Perhaps we’ll BOTH learn something? This seems like a worthy endeavor!
Free speech means not deplatforming people just because they have different political views than I do or because I just “don’t like it!” Ideas like this may not be my ideas, but people should hear them because they are ideas, and every idea is equal and good and just an opinion!
What is the harm in listening to ideas like this or giving them a platform? We shouldn’t be afraid of new thought! Ideas like this only SEEM familiar and that everyone has head them before! These ideas DESERVE a platform!
Look I know sacrcasm doesn’t work on here but goddamn I just can’t bring myself to stop using it
Disappointing to discover that not wanting to hear out literal neo-Nazis means I am closed off to all debate but relieved to discover that Donald Trump or other right wing figures have yet to demonize any specific groups in a dismissive way

She did not say Israel buys Jews. She didn't even mention Jews. This woman, one of the first 2 Muslims in Congress, just had her face put on a poster next to 9/11. I couldn't find one tweet by you about that, yet you wrongly said she never condemns Saudi.
I appreciate and value your work @juliaioffe but you have to see why that would make many Muslim-Americans wildly uncomfortable. Why should their comfort and sensitivity matter any less? Islamophobic attacks are skyrocketing across the U.S. right along with anti-Semitic violence.
My thread below offers a counterpoint to your claim that she was specifically attacking Jews. Even if she could have done better re: sensitivity, I think your deleted tweet about Saudi should incline you to some understanding that in certain respects, we can *all* do better.

I was at the barber shop yesterday, GETTIN MAH BEARDS ALL PARTIED UP and a couple chairs down were two guys -- barber and client -- talking about THE LAST JEDI, and it was fascinating to listen to their disagreement.
The barber -- a younger guy, I'd say late 20s early 30s -- hated it. HATED IT.

The guy in the chair, can't say his age, I'd say 40s - 50s, hair gone a little gray but not all the way -- loved it.
I was struck most by the barber's described betrayal of the story, summed up in a thing he said: "That wasn't MY Luke Skywalker."

And there's a whole lot going on there.

Now, if you allow me, being a liberal-leaning individual, I feel compelled to play the unlikely role of a Dr Jordan Peterson and discuss the points in which your analogy fails -- because they are just as interesting as those in which it works.
1. Political orientation as tribe/race/gender. Indeed beliefs correlate (call these correlations "Weltanschauungen"), but in a much less perfect way than biological taxa, genders, or cultures--basically because the former are more consciously felt and structured than the latter.
