Days ago, a federal judge, after testimony & evidence & petitions & a lawsuit, ruled that asylum seekers MUST BE given a bond hearing within 7 days.

Now BARR, one man, undoubtedly and irrevocably tied to Donald trump, is overruling immigration courts & the rule of law.

So Barr decided, all by his lonesome, to overrule the court and make a decision which will impact hundreds of thousands of lives. ANY "alien," he says, who is marked for expedited removal, but then passes a Credible Fear Interview (many of those "apprehended" at the border...

including women and children) is not even eligible for a bail hearing. They'll be detained during the entirety of their deportation process (otherwise known as determining whether their asylum case has merit and they get to stay.)

Thanks to the backlog, this can take years.

Barr's ruling. It rests pretty heavily on the case Jennings v Rodriguez (a case decided recently, and not well, according to the judge whose case Barr just overturned) &the meaning of the word "for." It's always awesome when lives are ruined by etymology.

Here's that original decision, btw. It was pretty clear from Judge Pechman's ruling that she was VERY familiar with Jennings, and wasn't impressed by it.

GEO, CoreCivic & any others that run for-profit detention centers &score gigantic govt contracts to house the people waiting years for their cases to end.

Thousands of people who've committed NO CRIMES.

Children will spend years in prison. Babies will know only detention life as their first memories develop. Women and girls and fathers and everyone fleeing violence and abject poverty and corruption in their countries, just to meet indefinite prison here.

At least Barr realized that this stunt of his was going to impact a lot of people. Of course, he doesn't care about the immigrants...he means DHS. So he's gonna give them time to prepare...more detention facilities, one imagines. Because one imagines Barr is a man with no soul.

Women, men, children jailed perhaps for years.
