Tricky. Not sure it's worth a tattoo as there still exists some debate. However, almost everything in business that's called a map - business process maps, mind maps, value stream maps ... aren't actually maps. They are graphs at best ->
... in a map, space has meaning with that meaning coming from an anchor (e.g. magnetic), position relative to the anchor and consistency of movement (i.e. North means North and not sometimes South). The best way to understand graph vs map is with the following diagram.
... by the way, I mixed in diagram, graph and map all in the same sentence. Maps (space has meaning) are a subset of graphs (relationship has meaning) which are subset of diagrams (representation has meaning).
