Remember how I said the #admissionsscandal would build? First the fraud charges, then when they didn't flip quick enough they were charged with money laundering.

So what did I say was next?

Tax evasion! msn.com/en-us/tv/celeb…
Rather than a 2 year deal, they now face 40 years in prison plus whatever gets identified in the tax evasion cases. Apparently their lawyer gave them some bad advice...

Now it may be too late for a deal, unless they have something bigger to give up of course...
You don't think #AuntBecky's lawyer gave her bad advice do you?

Does it make you wonder if there are some Swampy lawyers out there trying to rig cases under the old rules? What happens if they gave their client bad advise in the hopes of protecting someone they might flip on?
The money laundering charges were filed only hours after #AuntBecky rejected a plea deal on the fraud charges. Seems like her lawyer lead her & her husband into an ambush. Well if she is denial about the severity of the case, it will just get more severe. usmagazine.com/celebrity-news…
Felicity Hoffman who was also caught up in the fraud charges, plead guilty & is looking at 4-10 months in prison, instead of up to 40 years. Did she get better legal advice? Or have less to hide by cooperating? Both hired big law firms, but different ones. law.com/nationallawjou…
I don't know much about Boston lawyers, but these three seemed to have let their client get into deeper trouble. But one of #LoriLoughlin's attorneys is flying in from their Chicago office to represent her. Off course he lead the DOJ team in the Enron trials of Lay & Skilling.
So why would a law firm fly in their Co-Chair of their global complex commercial litigation practice? Seems a bit overqualified for the job especially to be giving such bad advice on a minor fraud charge? But this guy has a history.
Brought in from the Northern Illinois (Chicago) DOJ officer to lead the Enron Task Force in 2003, so he was Andrew Weissman's boss in that case... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sean_M._B…
Since leaving the DOJ he has represented Oracle, Walmart & General Electric in cases of securities fraud.

He seems to specialize in protecting Fortune 500 companies & executives in finding ways out of trouble without ending up in litigation! lw.com/people/sean-be…
I wonder if he was involved in this GE Capital securities fraud case. This is where they bundled fraudulent mortgages into securities & sold them to banks & other investors. Mysteriously they avoided charges on that in 2009. Only to plead guilty in 2019. threadreaderapp.com/thread/1117788…
