So... remember @RepMattShea, the Washington state legislator who got in trouble last fall for writing a manifesto for genocidal Christian holy war?
(If you don't remember, this thread will catch you up.)
Despite all the media attention, Matt won re-election in November, 58-42. And he's in the news again this week. rollingstone.com/politics/polit…
The @guardian has obtained chat logs that show @RepMattShea plotting with others to engage in political violence in the wake of the right's expected "antifa revolt" of November 2017.
Members of the chat discussed plans for beating and torturing specific activists, and proposed targeting their children's childcare facilities.
Shea himself offered to dox local organizers, including a professor and a member of @IndivisibleTeam. theguardian.com/world/2019/apr…
One member of the chat group, Jack Robertson, proposed smashing one specific female Spokane activist's face into a concrete traffic barrier and then "shav[ing] her bald with a K-Bar USMC field knife."
Robertson is a friend, colleague, and political advisor to @RepMattShea, and has collaborated with him on a plan for eastern Washington to secede from the rest of the state.
After the Guardian reached out to Robertson, he took to his radio show, on which Shea has been a frequent guest, to ask "If it comes time for war and it’s forced upon you, do you not want a leader who is going to surround himself with warriors?"
Again: Matt Shea is a sitting member of the Washington state legislature, and a member in good standing of the Washington State Republican Party. mattshea.houserepublicans.wa.gov
The Guardian article has been up for ten hours. No statement yet from @WAGOP, @WaHouseGOP, @WaSenateGOP, or @jtwilcox111 about the fact that their colleague @repmattshea got caught plotting political violence while a sitting state legislator.
Coming up on 48 hours since the Matt Shea story broke. Not a peep on it in the New York Times, Washington Post, AP, NPR, or any of the big Washington State newspapers.
A sitting GOP state legislator conspired with friends and political allies to engage in terroristic violence against constituents. He remains in office, remains a member in good standing of his party.
You'd think that a call from the Lieutenant Governor of a state for a member of that state's legislature would itself be enough to get coverage in the state's newspapers, but no.
