Hosting a time of reflection on this Holy Saturday...
Hold in mind the desolation of the disciples, family & friends of Jesus, as they watched him endure an illegal trial, torture, and execution, on Good Friday
& the isolation of suspended grief...
from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ –
be with us as we gather....
First,
God created the Heavens and Earth—all you see, all you don’t see.
Earth was a soup of nothingness,
a bottomless emptiness,
an inky blackness.
God’s Spirit brooded like a bird above the watery abyss....
Your love cannot be contained
& overflows in the wonder of creation.
You formed the universe out of nothing & moulded us from the clay of the earth.
All you have made sings of your marvellous deeds,
O Lord, our maker and redeemer.
I looked, and tendons and flesh appeared on them and skin covered them, but there was no breath in them...
You bring life from the darkest valley of death.
When hope is lost &our dry bones are scattered in shame,
speak your word to your broken people,
that we may stand confidently before you,
& breathe your Spirit into us that we might live
So what do we do? Keep on sinning so God can keep on forgiving? I should hope not! If we’ve left the country where sin is sovereign, how can we still live in our old house there? Or didn’t you realize we packed up and left there for good? ...
your name be holy,
your kingdom come,
your will be done.
Daily bread received,
forgiveness received,
forgiveness given freely.
Temptation refused, from evil protected.
The kingdom, power, and glory are yours
now and for ever. Amen.
