Kettle on

Sitting/standing/lying to be comfortable

Breathe....
A song, to begin our time together.

Please watch/listen

Then return here...

Grace, mercy and peace –

from God our Father

and the Lord Jesus Christ –

be with each of us as we gather...
Eternal God,

in the cross of Jesus

we see the cost of our sin

and the depth of your love:

in humble hope and fear

may we place at his feet

all that we have and all that we are,

through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Reading: from John 19

Then Pilate took Jesus and had him flogged.  The soldiers twisted together a crown of thorns and put it on his head. They clothed him in a purple robe and went up to him again and again, saying, “Hail, king of the Jews!” And they slapped him in the face.
Pilate said to the Jews gathered there, “Look, I am bringing him to you: I find no basis for a charge against him.”
Jesus came out wearing the crown of thorns and the purple robe, Pilate said, “Here is the man!”
The chief priests & their officials shouted, “Crucify! Crucify!”
God speaks:

“My people, what wrong have I done to you?

What good have I not done for you?

Listen to me.

I am your Creator, Lord of the universe;

I have entrusted this world to you,

but you have created the means to destroy it.”
God speaks:

“My people, what wrong have I done to you?

What good have I not done for you?

Listen to me.

I made you in my image,

but you have degraded body and spirit

and marred the image of your God.

You have deserted me and turned your backs on me.”
God speaks:

My people what wrong have I done to you?
What good have I not done for you?

Listen to me.

I filled the earth with all that you need
so that you might serve & care for one another as I have cared for you;

but you have cared only to serve your own wealth and power.”
Reading:  from John 19

So the soldiers took charge of Jesus. Carrying his own cross, he went out to the place of the Skull (which in Aramaic is called Golgotha). There they crucified him, and with him two others—one on each side and Jesus in the middle.
When the four soldiers crucified Jesus, they took his clothes, dividing them into four shares. The undergarment was seamless, woven in one piece from top to bottom.

“Let’s not tear it,” they said. “Let’s decide by lot who will get it"

So this is what the soldiers did.
Near the cross of Jesus stood his mother, his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Cleopas, & Mary Magdalene. When Jesus saw his mother there, & the disciple whom he loved, he said to her, “Woman, here is your son,” and to the disciple, “Here is your mother.”
God speaks:

“My people, what wrong have I done to you?

What good have I not done for you?

Listen to me.

I made my children of one blood

to live in families rejoicing in one another;

but you have embittered the races and divided the nations.”
God speaks:

“My people, what wrong have I done to you?

What good have I not done for you?

Listen to me.

I commanded you to love your neighbour as yourself,

to love and forgive even your enemies;

but you have made vengeance your rule and hate your guide.”
God speaks:

“My people, what wrong have I done to you?

What good have I not done for you?

Listen to me.

In the fullness of time I sent you my Son,

that in him you might know me,

and through him find life and peace;

but you put him to death on the cross.”
From noon until three in the afternoon darkness came over all the land. About three in the afternoon Jesus cried out in a loud voice
 “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?”
(“My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”)

When Jesus had cried out again in a loud voice, he gave up his spirit
God speaks:

“My people, what wrong have I done to you?

What good have I not done for you?

Listen to me.

Through the living Christ, I called you into my Church

to be my servants to the world,

but you have grasped at privilege and forgotten my will.”
God speaks:

“My people what wrong have I done to you?
What good have I not done for you?

Listen to me.
I have given you a heavenly gift
a share in the Holy Spirit;
I have given you the spiritual energies of the age to come;
but you have turned away
&crucified the Son of God.”
God speaks:

“My people what wrong have I done to you?
What good have I not done for you?

Listen to me.
I have consecrated you in the truth;
I have made you to be one
in the unity of the Father & the Son,
by the power of the Spirit;

you have divided my Church & shrouded truth”
.....

And heaven

falls

silent ....
Prayers

God sent his Son into the world, not to condemn the world,

but that the world might be saved through him.

Therefore we pray to our heavenly Father

for people everywhere according to their needs...
Father in heaven,

your name be holy,

your kingdom come,

your will be done.

Daily bread received,

forgiveness received,

forgiveness given freely.

Temptation refused, from evil protected.

The kingdom, power, and glory are yours

now and for ever.  Amen.
From John 19

Near the place where Jesus was crucified,
there was a garden,
and in the garden a new tomb,
in which no one had ever been laid.

Because it was the Jewish day of Preparation and since the tomb was nearby,
they laid Jesus there.

Then
they
left...
