Every Christian holiday there’s another crop of liberal theologians who think they sound edgy by saying the most tired, predictable, boring things. They speak as if they’re the first to come up with it but it’s all just so old and sterile. Yawn.
Wow another person who thinks you can extract out banal platitudes from the historical claims of Christianity. Doesn’t matter if Jesus rose from the dead, what matters is the message that love triumphs over death. Amazing never heard that you’re really breaking new ground.
[Deep Sigh] Okay here we go. The idea that we can jettison the truth claims of Christianity while retaining the moral lessons those claims imply is the theologian equivalent of anti-vaxxers. Vaccines got rid of polio so now you think we don’t need them.
If you grew up traditional you can become liberal and freeload on the culture because it’s a kind of religious herd immunity. But if actual believers get to a low enough percentage, the religious culture dies. Your grandkids will be atheists.
So go ahead, get rid of the belief in the bodily resurrection of Jesus. Who needs it right. And then watch what happens over time to your idea that love conquers death. Best of luck.
PS: He is risen.
