The Jewish community has spent much energy recently arguing over which is more dangerous: The growing anti-Semitism of the far left or that of the far right. As this image makes clear, what was once recognized as anti-Semitism is increasingly an accepted mainstream phenomenon.
What's happened is that the consensus about what counts as "anti-Semitic" in mainstream culture is quickly collapsing, just like many other cultural norms. Realistically, it's unlikely that this one norm is going to survive when other cultural norms are falling one after another.
Of course Jews and others will continue condemning such smears. But it's a mistake to think this tide is going to be held back by such familiar methods. It won't be. It's time to rethink: What are the most important goals and how, reastically, can they be achieved.
It may turn out that some kinds of protest and condemnation that were effective yesterday are just not going to have the desired effect today. If so, then what?
