Jewish Leadership Council and Board of Deputies both wrote to the Labour Party today about anti-Semitism.
The @JLC_uk demanded an apology for "hurt" caused by Jeremy Corbyn.
The @BoardofDeputies accused him of repeating a “classic racist trope”.
But something else from today:
When Labour reopened discussions on the anti-Semitism code in July it pledged to consult Jewish groups on the way forward.
But apparently there has been no formal consultation between the party and the JLC or the Board of Deputies.
That's despite the fact that Labour's National Executive Committee is expected to vote on adopting a revised code of conduct on Tuesday next week.
(@jessicaelgot was way ahead of me on this and reported the consultation concerns earlier this month)
All of which means the NEC could agree a new/revised code of conduct on anti-Semitism without getting the input of the JLC or the Board of Deputies. No prizes for guessing how this will go down.
Labour is not denying that the JLC and the Board have not been formally consulted.
Source just says: "A range of Jewish communal organisations, rabbis, academics, lawyers, trade unions, Palestinian groups, local Labour parties and members have taken part in the consultation."
Labour Party spokeswoman response to the JLC/Board letters: “The Labour Party and Jeremy Corbyn have made clear their total opposition to antisemitism and repeatedly stressed that we must ensure our party is a welcoming home for Jews..."
"... so that Jewish members can play a full part in our campaigning to rebuild Britain for the many not the few."
