Yet another attack on the Jewish community. This time in #Poway. 💔

If you feel like there are far more anti-Semitic hate crimes happening, you are unfortunately correct.

I graphed hate crimes data collected by the FBI to quantify how bad it is. It's really bad. +37% in 2017.
Just in case you missed that: Attacks on Jewish people in the US went up 37% IN ONE YEAR from 2016 to 2017.

What. The. Fuck.
2018 data is not out yet. I hope 2017 was an outlier.

The meme that college is "only insurance" is true if your family is wealthy/well-connected.

College should be valued as a network and doing so leads to counter-intuitive results👇
2/ It's not a surprise that many people who push the university as insurance meme are well-connected. Most students do not come from wealthy or well-connected families.

For normal students, the value of @Harvard or @Stanford is access (in addition to a world class education)
3/ What is it worth to be friends w/ future CEOs, Congresspeople, Senators, etc.? What is it worth to have those friends' parents help you?

How do you value access/network? And what are the implications?

1/ Like Pokémon, angel investors have a natural evolutionary path. Founders who understand the evolution of angels can construct a better team around the company. A quick thread on my observations and how founders should stack their team 👇
2/ Level 1 Angels -- hands on functional help, e.g. a founder who can give great product advice or engineering VP who advises on people management. Founders lean on these people for tactical advice. Level 1s are very high ROI because they often invest $5k-$25k.
3/ Level 2 Angels -- help at inflection points, e.g. advice on series A deck + intros to VCs + negotiation advice = series A valuation went up 25%. Huge ROI for a $100k check. Level 2s have lots of demands on their time but are tremendously helpful in bursts and key moments.
